When thinking of Philly, most people probably don’t think of winter sports. But that doesn’t mean Philadelphia locals are far from athletic snow activities. Plenty of Philadelphians love to get out of the city and into the mountains to ski.

If you want to know where to find snowy mountains this winter to enjoy some winter sports experiences, here are some places to ski near Philadelphia!

Fun Places to Ski Near Philly 

Here’s a list of some of the best ski spots within a few hundred miles of the Greater Philadelphia area— typically just a few hours’ drive. Perfect for day trips or winter ski vacations when you want to run the steep slopes!

Spring Mountain Adventures

Spring Mountain has everything you and your family need to experience a fun day of skiing. It has eight trails, four different chair lifts, two leisurely terrain parks, and a 400-foot vertical drop. Local families favor Spring Mountain for the kid-friendly ski lessons, affordable pub nearby, and attentive instructors for all ages.

Best for: Families, youth ski & snowboard training, day trips

Roundtop Mountain

Renowned by the local skiing community for more than 60 years, Roundtop has 21 slopes and more than 600 acres of skiable terrain. Its 600-vertical drop is challenging but still family-friendly, and there are plenty of options for groups looking to enjoy a day trip or extended winter vacation.

Montage Mountain

Montage Mountain has a lot of different terrain options to choose from— 27 trails, to be exact. Beginners and experts enjoy the trails at Montage, and the 1,000-foot vertical, White Lightning, is one of the steepest slopes in the eastern U.S. If your kids don’t want to ski, there’s also snow tubing available.

Bear Creek Mountain Resort

In Lehigh Valley, PA, Bear Creek Mountain Resort offers a bunch of winter wonders for sports enthusiasts. With more than 23 slopes and trails to choose from, skiers of all levels can spend some quality vacation time improving their skills and having fun. 

Their black diamond trail, “Sasquatch,” boasts a 50% slope to challenge the pros. Plus, when you’re not skiing or ‘boarding, there’s plenty of entertainment and relaxation options to choose from.

Blue Mountain Resort

Blue Mountain Resort has a well-known 1,082-foot vertical with 40 other highly varied terrain options. The long ski runs at Blue Mountain are some of the best in the state of Pennsylvania. Plus, there’s plenty of black diamond trails complete with lights for evening activity and automatic snowmaking for endless powdery fun.

Best for: All levels, serious skiers and snowboarders, season passes

Camelback Mountain Resort

Located 105 miles outside of Philly in the Pocono Mountains, Camelback Mountain Resort is widely loved by skiers in the tri-state area. The views are unbeatable, the trails are thrilling (there are 35 of them), and the 800-foot vertical is just the right size for all levels. Enjoy warm, entertaining indoor activities at the resort— including its indoor water park!

Best for: Family vacations, all skiing levels, indoor/outdoor recreation

Jack Frost / Big Boulder

Small but mighty, Jack Frost / Big Boulder— located in White Haven— is a popular ski resort for beginners, but its 20 different trails offer something for every skiing enthusiast. Their rental process is known for being quick and easy, so it’s perfect for day trips and new skiers seeking some adventure. Get your lift tickets online in advance!

Best for: Beginners, families, day trips

Eagle Rock Resort

Eagle Rock Resort is a year-round, 5,000-acre resort community in Hazle Township, Pennsylvania. In the winter, they have snow sports for families including skiing, tubing, and winter parks. As a smaller ski resort that’s slightly exclusive to residents and members, it’s less crowded and ideal for new skiers who prefer some extra space.

Mountain Creek Resort

Located in Vernon Township, NJ, Mountain Creek Resort is one of the biggest ski resorts in the area. With over 160 acres of skiable trails, four mountain peaks, and a 1,480-foot vertical drop, Mountain Creek is loved by intermediate and expert skiers. The resort offers day passes, nighttime skiing, and group rates to choose the experience that’s best for you and your friends.

Best for: Intermediate and advanced skiers, strong ski culture 

Liberty Mountain Resort

Liberty Mountain is a prime skiing vacation destination for families and ski fanatics of all levels. Its 16 trails allow beginners to face new heights and intermediate/advanced skiers to enjoy refining their skills.
